Ismail Al-Za'im, A Symbol of Generosity and Hospitality in Medina, Passes Away

On Tuesday, 16 April 2024, Medina mourned the loss of one of its beloved icons, the Syrian Sheikh Ismail Al-Za'im, famously known as "Abu Al-Saba," who passed away at the age of 96.

Sheikh Ismail gained renown for his charitable work, which involved providing free tea and coffee to visitors of Medina, including pilgrims and Umrah performers, for over 40 years.

Born in the city of Hama, Syria, Abu Al-Saba migrated to Medina four decades ago, where he spent the rest of his life, becoming one of its most prominent figures.

Every day, Sheikh Ismail would sit on his chair near the Prophet's Mosque, setting up a table with plates of sweets and dates, alongside a pot of tea and a container of coffee. With his warm smile and boundless generosity, he welcomed visitors of the Haram Mosque and offered them hospitality with love and kindness.

Sheikh Ismail firmly believed in the importance of hosting the guests of the Most Merciful, ensuring that he provided the best food and drink to all who passed by him. Thanks to his kindness and hospitality, he became a symbol of Medina and was beloved by visitors from all around the world.

Abu Al-Sabaa left behind a legacy of generosity and giving that will forever remain in the memories of all who knew him. He was a role model of sacrifice and altruism, teaching everyone the importance of helping others and spreading happiness in their hearts.

Social media users mourned Al-Hajj Ismail with touching words, praising his charitable deeds and unparalleled generosity. Many residents of Medina also expressed deep sorrow at the loss of this kind-hearted man, who was a symbol of generosity and giving.
