Hamas Stands Firm on Resistance Arms as Morocco Erupts Over Alleged Israeli Military Transfers

Gaza – Hamas has announced that it will soon issue a formal response to a ceasefire proposal brokered by Egypt and Qatar amid continued Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. The group has firmly rejected one of the key terms of the proposal—disarmament—calling it a "million red lines" that violate Palestinian rights and dignity.

Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan reiterated the group’s stance, stating that resistance weapons are non-negotiable and are crucial for the defence of Palestinians. He confirmed that Hamas is seriously considering the broader terms of the ceasefire, which include a 45-day truce, phased prisoner exchanges, and expanded humanitarian aid. However, the disarmament clause remains the major point of contention.

The mediation, involving Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, comes as international pressure mounts on Israel to end its military operations, which have led to thousands of deaths and widespread destruction across the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, the situation in occupied East Jerusalem continues to escalate, with Israeli forces storming Al-Aqsa Mosque courtyards, fuelling further outrage across the Muslim world.

Morocco’s Ports Spark Popular Uprising

While Gaza remains under siege, outrage has spread across Morocco as protesters rally against the alleged use of Moroccan ports to facilitate the transfer of U.S. military equipment to Israel. Activists and rights groups claim that container ships, particularly those operated by Danish shipping giant Maersk, have docked or are expected to dock in Moroccan ports such as Casablanca and Tangier, possibly carrying arms for the Israeli army.

The Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalisation has called for a massive protest this Friday at the Casablanca port, coinciding with the anticipated arrival of the Maersk Nexo. Similarly, the National Action Group for Palestine is organising a march from Al-Qasr Al-Saghir to the port of Tangier to oppose the docking of the "Detroit Maersk."

The Moroccan Union of Port Workers has issued a bold statement urging its members to boycott services to ships suspected of delivering military supplies to Israel, declaring that any cooperation with such vessels is tantamount to aiding genocide against Palestinians.

Adding religious weight to the protest, a collective of Moroccan Islamic scholars issued a legal statement prohibiting any involvement with such shipments, describing it as harām and a betrayal of Islamic principles.

Maldives Bans Entry of Israeli Passport Holders

In a significant move reflecting growing international solidarity with Palestine, the Maldives has officially banned Israeli passport holders from entering the country. President Mohamed Muizzu ratified the decision on April 15, 2025, amending the nation's immigration laws to enforce the ban. The Maldivian government stated that this action is a direct response to what it describes as Israel's "ongoing atrocities" against the Palestinian people. This policy change aligns with the Maldives' broader stance of condemning violations of international law and advocating for Palestinian rights on global platforms.
