Vidoe: Sheikh Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi Appointed as the New Key Holder of the Kaaba

After three days of moruning, the Al-Shaibi family announced the appointment of Sheikh Abdul Wahab bin Zain Al-Abidin Al-Shaibi as the new Key holder of the Kaaba (Sadin), making him the 78th person to hold this esteemed position. The announcement was made during a customary family ceremony. Sheikh Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi received four keys related to his duties as the Custodian of the Kaaba:

  • The key to the Kaaba.
  • The key to the Door of Repentance, which leads to the roof of the Kaaba.
  • The key to the chest inside the Kaaba.
  • The key to the Maqam, the Station of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him).
  • Additionally, he received a screwdriver to assist in the opening of the doors.

The Al-Shaibi family in Saudi Arabia handed over the key to the Kaaba to their eldest member, Sheikh Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi, who is now the new Key Holder of the Kaaba. Sheikh Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi is the younger brother of the previous keeper, Dr. Saleh Al-Shaibi, who passed away recently. This makes Sheikh Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi the 78th Guardian of the Kaaba, and he is currently the eldest among the Al-Shaibi family.

The title of Custodian (Sadin) is given to the person who holds the key to the Kaaba and is responsible for all its affairs, including changing its cover, cleaning it, perfuming it, and opening and closing it.  Ahmed Al-Shaibi, the grandson of the late Keeper, stated, "Today, the key to the Kaaba was handed over after the third day of mourning for my grandfather and beloved, Saleh Zain Al-Abidin Al-Shaibi."

Sheikh Abdul Wahab bin Zain Al-Abidin Al-Shaibi is the 78th Keeper since the conquest of Mecca during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the 110th since the time of Qusai bin Kilab (the fourth grandfather of Prophet Muhammad - PBUH), the first one who held this postion from Quraish tribe. He is the descendant of Shaiba bin Othman bin Abi Talha. Traditionally, the key to the Kaaba is handed over to the eldest in the family. His first task will be at the beginning of Muharram 1446 AH, following the royal decree from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz.

Upon receiving the key to the Kaaba, Sheikh Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi prayed for success in performing his duties under the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his Crown Prince. Sheikh Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi's first duty as the new Keeper will be to replace the Kaaba's cover at the beginning of the new Hijri year in the month of Muharram. He is now awaiting the royal decree to commence his duties.
