Gaza Crisis Deepens while Israel Continues Massacre
Thousands gathered in Washington DC to protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his speech to the US Congress on Wednesday. Netanyahu emphasized the importance of the US-Israel alliance, receiving multiple standing ovations, and criticized the demonstrators outside. Several lawmakers boycotted his speech.
The occupied West Bank has seen increased violence, including deadly Israeli military raids and arson attacks by settlers, following the ICJ's confirmation of Israel's occupation as illegal. Thousands of anti-Gaza war protesters marched to the US Capitol.
As of Monday, 83% of the Gaza Strip has been marked unsafe for civilians by the Israeli military, with many areas designated as "no-go zones" or issued evacuation orders by the UN's OCHA. Despite these measures, residents say no place is safe as Israeli attacks have persisted for over nine months, resulting in over 39,000 Palestinian deaths and widespread displacement.
On Monday, the Israeli military ordered residents of eastern Khan Younis to evacuate to the al-Mawasi zone, claiming Hamas presence in the area. Shortly after, Israeli strikes killed at least 70 people. The evacuation displaced 150,000 residents to areas with minimal infrastructure, with al-Mawasi’s safe zone shrinking by 15%. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus criticized this move, warning of increased health risks.
The Israeli army has repeatedly attacked designated humanitarian zones, including al-Mawasi, leading to numerous casualties. On July 13, Israeli airstrikes killed 90 people in al-Mawasi. The UN estimates that 1.9 million people in Gaza are internally displaced, many forced to move multiple times.
Israeli military actions have targeted UN schools, hospitals, and refugee camps, leaving no space safe in Gaza. Recent attacks include bombing a UN-run school and residential buildings in Nuseirat refugee camp and Jabalia camp, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries. Palestinian fighters continue to resist with improvised explosive devices.
Humanitarian aid to Gaza remains insufficient, with only 710 trucks allowed entry in July, far below the needed 500 trucks per day. Many aid supplies are stuck in Egypt due to restrictions.
Since October 7, the Israeli offensive in Gaza has killed over 39,000 and wounded more than 90,000 people , many victims still unreachable by rescue teams.
