Many Countries, Including Saudi Arabia, Declare Saturday as the First Day of Ramadan

In the ongoing efforts to determine the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, official announcements continue to emerge from various Islamic countries regarding the sighting of the crescent moon.

As of now, Indonesia and Australia have declared that Saturday, March 1, 2025, will mark the first day of Ramadan 1446 AH. Meanwhile, Brunei has announced that the moon was not sighted on Friday evening, and therefore, Ramadan in the country will commence on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

Similarly, the Philippines has confirmed that Sunday, March 2, 2025, will be the first day of fasting. Malaysia has also declared that the holy month will begin on Sunday.

In Saudi Arabia, the Supreme Court has officially confirmed that the crescent moon was sighted, making Saturday, March 1, the first day of Ramadan. The other GCC countries including Oman and Qatar also has declared Saturday as the first day of Ramadan.

Many other countries continue to conduct moon sighting procedures based on astronomical and Shariah-approved criteria, with official declarations expected to follow based on the decisions of their respective authorities.
