Twenty-fifth session of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy Starts in Jeddah

On Monday, February 20, 2023, Saudi Arabia hosted the inauguration of the twenty-fifth session of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy. The event took place in Jeddah and was marked by the organizational meeting of the Academy's Council. Chaired by His Excellency the President, Sheikh Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid, and attended by the Secretary-General, Dr. Qutub Mustafa Sano, the meeting set the agenda for the upcoming sessions.

The session is notable for its discussion of contemporary and topical issues, with a significant representation of over 200 male and female scholars from across the Islamic world and societies. The Secretary-General, Dr. Qutb Mustafa Sano, expressed appreciation for the support provided by the host country, Saudi Arabia, to ensure the success of the session.

The first day of the four-day session featured three academic sessions addressing crucial topics. The discussions ranged from the compulsory rulings on education in Islam, including religious and secular aspects for both sexes, to the impact of the Corona pandemic on various aspects of life, including worship, family, felonies, transactions, contracts, and financial obligations. The third session focused on the ruling on praying in a language other than Arabic and the permissibility of praying behind electronic devices.

The Council is expected to issue Sharia decisions on these contemporary issues, drawing on the collective judgment of scholars from the Islamic world. The session aims to study and provide appropriate legal rulings for 160 papers presented by 200 academics and experts from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries.

The International Islamic Fiqh Academy, a global academic body under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, was established in Makkah Al-Mukarramah in 1981. The main headquarters of the academy is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
