Muslims Across the Globe Celebrate Eid al-Adha

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Turkey are celebrating Eid al-Adha today, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, after authorities confirmed the crescent moon sighting earlier this week. Most Gulf nations and several Middle Eastern countries are observing Bakrid on May 27 alongside the completion of Hajj rituals in Saudi Arabia.

India is expected to celebrate Eid al-Adha tomorrow, Thursday, May 28, 2026, following local moon-sighting announcements in most parts of the country. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Malaysia are also expected to observe Bakrid on May 28 due to differences in crescent moon visibility and regional moon-sighting practices.

In Europe, many Muslim communities in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain are observing Eid on May 27 by following Saudi Arabia’s announcement. However, some mosques and local Islamic organizations may celebrate on May 28 depending on regional moon-sighting decisions.

Across Africa, several countries including Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Sudan are observing Eid al-Adha on May 27. Morocco, which follows an independent moon-sighting process, is expected to celebrate on May 28, although the final decision depends on official confirmation.

In North America, many Muslim organizations and mosques in the United States and Canada are celebrating Eid on May 27, especially those following the Saudi calendar. However, some local communities may observe Eid on May 28 based on local or regional moon sightings.

Australia and New Zealand are also largely observing Eid al-Adha on May 27, with Eid prayers and community celebrations taking place at mosques and Islamic centres.

Meanwhile, more than 1.5 million pilgrims from around the world gathered at Mount Arafat on Tuesday for the most significant ritual of Hajj before moving to Muzdalifah after sunset. Pilgrims spent the night in prayer and collected pebbles for the symbolic stoning ritual at Jamarat in Mina on Eid morning.

Saudi authorities said pilgrims have now largely completed the first phase of the “Ramy al-Jamarat” ritual, where pebbles are thrown at the largest pillar symbolising the rejection of evil. After completing the ritual, many pilgrims performed the Eid al-Adha animal sacrifice, shaved or trimmed their hair and began the “Tawaf al-Ifadah” at the Grand Mosque in Mecca. Pilgrims are expected to remain in Mina over the next two days to complete the remaining stoning rituals before concluding Hajj.
