Kashmiri Muslim Community Stands United Against Terrorism After Baisaran Attack

Following the April 22, 2025, terrorist attack in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, the Kashmiri Muslim community responded with widespread condemnation and solidarity actions.

Prominent Muslim organizations, including the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, publicly denounced the attack. They emphasized that such acts of violence are incompatible with Islamic principles and expressed condolences to the victims' families. The AIMPLB suspended its ongoing protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act for three days as a gesture of mourning and solidarity .

In the days following the attack, several towns across Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, Pulwama, and Anantnag, witnessed shutdowns and peaceful protests. These actions were organized by local communities to express grief and reject terrorism. Candlelight vigils and silent marches were held, with participants from diverse backgrounds uniting to condemn the violence .

Religious leaders across the region addressed the attack during Friday sermons, categorically denouncing the violence and urging communities to uphold peace. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, delivering a sermon at Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized that such acts are against the teachings of Islam.

Local residents played a crucial role in the immediate aftermath, providing first aid, transporting the injured to medical facilities, and offering shelter to those affected. Notably, individuals like Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a pony ride operator, attempted to protect tourists during the attack and was tragically killed. Additionally, locals Musafir and Sameer assisted a family from Kochi, Kerala, who had lost a member in the attack. They supported Arathi R Menon, the daughter of the deceased, by accompanying her to the mortuary and staying with her until late at night, actions that were widely praised and highlighted in media reports.

These collective responses from the Kashmiri Muslim community underscore a unified stance against terrorism and a commitment to humanitarian values, reflecting the region's resilience and solidarity in the face of tragedy.
